PV Library Seed Library Launch!

Monday, May 6All DayThe LibraryPleasant Valley Library1584 Main St, Pleasant Valley, NY, 12569

Our new Seed Library provides community members with vegetable, flower, and herb seeds for free! Our goal is to encourage gardeners of all ages to grow some of their own food, herbs, and pollinator-friendly plants and providing seeds is just the beginning.

Here’s how it works: look through our Seed Library Binder, choose 3 packets of seeds, and remember the corresponding numbers. Take a photo of the seed information on the packet or use the QR codes for growing information. Ask the library staff at the desk for the seed envelopes with the corresponding numbers.

Want to learn more about gardening? The Seed Library Binder has information and resources about how to design your garden and when and how to plant your seeds. Also, workshops and resources will be provided by the CCEDC Master Gardener program including How to Compost, Seed Starting, Seed Saving, etc.

Eventually, at the end of the season, we hope that growers will return their saved seeds to the library. In this way, the whole community will benefit from access to locally adapted varieties that respond proactively to climate change and preserve genetic diversity.

This program is a joint initiative of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County Master Gardeners, the NYS Seed-to-Supper program, and the Pleasant Valley Library.
